The team at our long-standing partner, Venn Group, have been using their skills to help young women find work by volunteering and supporting Young Women’s Trust.
In this blog, we hear from Jade, Lucy and Elly, all Venn Group employees, who volunteer their time to help young women.
Volunteering for our CV feedback service
Jade Gorrod, CV feedback volunteer
I have been volunteering for the CV feedback service at Young Women’s Trust since 2017 and it has been an absolute pleasure to support this fantastic cause. Many women do not have easy access to any advice on their CV which makes their job search all the more challenging. Being able to use my skills as a recruiter to give feedback on their CVs and ultimately help move their applications in the right direction is very important to me.
There are many CVs that I proofread that show the young women to be talented and skilled. So part of my role is to not only point out any development areas but also to highlight all the brilliant experience on their CV. I enjoy volunteering because if I am able to improve the confidence of some of women who are applying for jobs in a competitive market then it is time incredibly well-spent. It is also wonderful when I receive updates from the young women that re-working their CV has helped them get an interview or secure a new job!
I am proud to be a part of the CV feedback service and I would urge others to get involved too, to help many more young women in need of CV advice.
Raising £15,000 to support young women
Lucy Worf, Charity Committee Lead
Each of our 7 offices has a self-nominated person that sits on our charity committee. They meet once a month and are responsible for planning fundraising events and volunteering opportunities throughout the year for their colleagues. These include everything from bake sales, participation in challenge events to our much anticipated annual company charity day.
Particular highlights for this year have been
- challenge events on International Women’s Day
- office sweepstakes for the Euros
- companywide raffle
- a silent auction
Lily from Young Women’s Trust, has been great in encouraging the reps each month with fundraising ideas and participation. She has also kept the committee up to date with the amazing work the charity is doing. Having the support of Young Women’s Trust makes it so much easier for the reps to organise successful events and raise lots of money.
Delivering webinars and blogs to help upskill young women
Elly Hanna, Partnership Lead
As recruiters we are trained to facilitate and ease the recruitment process for our candidates, we know how daunting job hunting can be and therefore how important support and advice is. That is why we have been working with Young Women’s Trust to deliver webinars and blogs to young women who are in search of employment advice.
These webinars are our opportunity to become cheerleaders for the attendees providing accessible toolkits, the best of our expertise and importantly a can-do approach. It is our privilege to partner with Young Women’s Trust on their delivery and help to change outcomes for young women with our experience.
Every day, talented recruiters use their skills to help people find work. It makes them a perfect fit for our volunteering programme and natural allies to Young Women’s Trust.
If your team could use their skills and expertise to support young women, we would love to hear from you! To talk about Corporate Partnerships, get in touch with Lily Kendall on 0797 1954 658 or [email protected].
